Your Third Eye Will Enable You to See Reality

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

You may have seen the Third Eye on Lord Shiva’s brow. It is all over Hindu and Buddhist statues. People throughout India wear the red dot, or tilak, as a symbol of inner vision and spiritual awakening.

The legend goes that Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation, loves to meditate, not for minutes or hours, but for centuries and millennia. Nothing can perturb him. However, when Shiva decides to truly awaken and opens up his Third Eye, fire comes out of his eyes, and with that fire, he destroys the Universe.

What lies behind this classic Vedic myth is that spiritual vision, or the Third Eye, cuts through the illusion, so you can see the world as it is. You see God in everyone and everything, and everyone and everything in God.

The Third Eye Is Very Real

We all have a right brain, and a sense of intuition. All the great psychics maintain that every one of us has psychic ability, but not everyone develops it. A high-profile contemporary guru, Swami Nithyananda, is training children to read blindfolded. This has actually been demonstrated before U.S. Congress in front of highly skeptical lawmakers.

The Third Eye is a symbol of our inner or mental vision. There are extra-dimensions beyond our physical senses, as contemporary String Theory insists. Some resonate with the ancient concept of the Akashic Records, where everything that anyone has thought, felt or done is recorded some place within the Universe. Dark Matter and Dark Energy force us to examine new models of what is real.

You may wonder why you don’t feel anything on your forehead just above your physical eyes. Surely this is superstition! Some people with various practices actually do. When you close your eyes into a lucid dream, where is that dream happening? It can seem more “real” than your everyday experience.

Don’t Be Afraid of Your Third Eye

Numerous warnings have been circulating to avoid the Third Eye, that it is very dangerous. You do your best to keep it shut. This is unfounded, as it is more likely that keeping your Third Eye shut is the real problem. The energy within our nervous system wants to flow. The Third Eye corresponds to the pineal gland within the brain. Rene Descartes, who gave us the phrase, “I think. Therefore, I am,” called that gland “the seat of the soul.”

When you see, hear or feel extra dimensions, they don’t eliminate the third dimension. They simply enrich it. Hindu masters like to use the analogy of gold. All kinds of jewels and statues are created out of gold. If you are discerning, you will see the underlying gold, and appreciate the delightful forms as just that, forms. We are a dancing field of energy. However, we experience that dance as the physical world. The Third Eye will enable you to see it is ultimately the play of consciousness.

Your Third Eye is your guide in many different situations. With it, you can see into the immediate future. You can see what is happening on the other side of the earth. When you meet new people, you can read them, you can see what is going on with them just under the skin. Hindu Masters refer to the Third Eye, or the Sixth Chakra, as Viveka, or discrimination.

The most fundamental aspect of Liberation is the ability to differentiate the real from the unreal.

The Third Eye Is Essential to Self-Realization

Maharishi popularized the Seven Chakras, or energy centers, going from the base of the spine up to the crown of the skull. They are divided into the lower and the upper. The lower chakras we share with all animals. The center chakra, the Heart or Anahata Chakra, we share with all mammals. It is our ability to empathize with others. The upper chakras enable us to see God, or realize the Self on different levels.

The throat, or Vishuddha Chakra, opens up Cosmic Conscious. You are one with the Universe, which is an extension of your body. The Third Eye, or Ajna Chakra, opens up God Consciousness. You are one with God. You are so close that you see Him inches away. You could touch Him, except that there is a thick window pane separating you. The Crown, or Sahasrara chakra, opens up Unity Consciousness. There is just THE ONE. There is no longer a distinction between you and God. There is just God. God is all there is.

Our sense of the sacred comes alive with the Third Eye. We have an experiential realization that we are divine. That realization is far more important than the many powers, or siddhis, that may come our way, including clairvoyance, clairaudience, telepathy and telekinesis. You may have the powers of a god or goddess. What is far more important is that you can now love as God loves.

Can Only Highly Gifted People Use Their Third Eye?

As the Third Eye has been sensationalized, it is natural to assume that only great masters, such as Swami Nithyananda, have this ability and can fully capitalize on it. However, this is far from the case. Nithyananda, himself, has gone on public record that he intends to open up the Third Eye for an entire generation. He claims that we will actually alter our genetics!

With the advent of Indigo Children, as well as the finely-tuned sensitivity of the Millennials, this is indeed a possibility. In neuroscience, we are finding that genes are ultimately information that continually opens up ever new possibilities.

Narrative accounts of great mystics, such as Sri Ramakrishna, suggests that they can bestow their powers on others. Simply hanging out with an avatar of the magnitude of Ramakrishna can utterly transform you. This is why ashrams feature seeing, or diksha, the master. The master, through a gaze, a gesture or his touch, awakens the divine within you, which can feel much like an electric current.

How to Know When Your Third Eye Is Opening

As you pray and meditate, and engage in various spiritual practices, you put yourself in the way of opening up your intuitive capabilities. You start paying attention to your dreams, your impressions, your lingering thoughts and your ideas. You relish the overwhelming beauty of creation in the forest or by the sea. You begin to open from the inside out.

You will experience your Third Eye in any of Four Channels:
1.  Your mental capabilities will let you read other people’s minds. You will think of someone, and then they suddenly call you.
2.  Your emotional capabilities will flower, and you will suddenly feel love for all sorts of people (I did, a year or two after being hugged by the contemporary Master, Amma).
3.  Your spiritual capabilities will give a direct knowing of important developments in the near future.
4.  Your somatic capabilities will give you actual physical sensations within your body conveying important information, such as being uneasy with someone for no apparent reason.

You will most readily know your Third Eye is opening when you hunger and thirst for God more than anything else. You will stop seeing God as a Tyrant in the Sky on a Golden Throne Hurling Thunderbolts at us. You will feel Divine as a fountain of Absolute Love gushing forth deep within you. You will find that this fountain is truly inexhaustible. You have within you the most powerful force in the Universe. And that will change everything for you, my dear friend!
